Living in such a stunning and ecologically diverse county, we are keen to do all we can to help maintain it. Progress in 'green' issues does take time and it is important to make sure that any environmentally-led policy is sustainable. At The Met, we have already started to make some important changes and are creating initiatives for reducing the waste we send to landfill and reducing our energy usage.
We've already managed to reduce our food bins by at least one per week and our cardboard, plastics and tins are taken away for recycling. Food composting bins have been ordered, in order to reduce food waste and it means we will have compost for our gardens.
We are also liaising with Cornish-based waste contractors to obtain the best value service and also keep money circulating in the Cornish economy. This also applies to our suppliers as local purchasing helps to cut down on food miles. If we can continue to ensure a good supply of quality fruit and vegetables from local nurseries and market gardens, then not only are we helping the local aconomy but we will also generate a much smaller carbon footprint than if we had brought these from central London or from Continental Europe - or even further afield.
